The war against oil production

How much damage does the Obama administration want to do to the oil and gas industry? The president has punted until after the election the decision on whether to allow TransCanada to build the KeystoneXL pipeline from Alberta to Oklahoma and Texas, to the great consternation of the Canadian government, as I noted in my November 15 Examiner column. And the administration continues to block offshore oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico on grounds that seem arbitrary and specious, to judge from the lengthy excerpt from a brief in opposition to the government’s action, as quoted in this blogpost (hat tip Instapundit).
