America to Congress: We need to talk about the relationship

It’s just not working out. Sorry.

Only 24 percent of Americans in a new NBC News/WSJ poll approve of the job Congress is doing, while 65 percent said they disapprove. We suspect most of that 24 percent are actually members of Congress and their families. Eleven percent were not sure.

Bad news for that scampish Eric Cantor: Only 23 percent in the poll said they approve of the job Republicans in Congress are doing on health care reform. Sixty-four percent said they disapprove.

Pollsters asked, “How much of the time do you trust the government in Washington to do what is right?” When they were done laughing, four percent said just about always, 19 percent said most of the time, 65 percent said only some of the time, and 11 percent said never.

Interestingly, “never” was not part of the pollsters’ script but was volunteered by that 11 percent of respondents.
