The latest from Politico’s Jonathan Martin asks, ‘Is Rick Perry dumb?’
The answer is simple: Democrats say yes, but if you talk to Perry advisors, they’ll tell you ‘no.’ Other Republicans will chuckle and shake their heads.
It’s a throwback to media reports during the Bush and Reagan eras: Rising charismatic Republicans are intellectual lightweights who rely on an evil political genius or a group of eggheads that are successfully marketing their candidate.
Martin’s conclusion? “Perry may not be a wonk, but that doesn’t mean he’s a rube —a costly mistake many of his foes have made.”
