WH: We don’t expect satisfactory job creation

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney indicated, during today’s press briefing, that it is unlikely that unemployment figures will fall to levels that might consititute a strong economy.

“I think that we’re not in any danger of reaching a point where the unemployment rate is satisfactorily low,” Carney answered when asked if President Obama has a target number for the unemployment rate to fall, “which is why we need to do everything we can through Congress, through the use of the President’s executive authority, and working with our partners in the private sector, as the President highlighted today with former President Clinton, to put people back to work and to build the foundation of an economy that can grow into the future, which is what the Better Buildings Initiative does.”

Carney also said, “I would let economists evaluate that and give you a number.” He added that “this President has said and is committed to not resting until he knows that every American who’s looking for a job can get a job.”
