The 2022 elections have given way to new legislative sessions, and with them comes a renewed push by Republicans to protect children from being mutilated in the name of a fringe gender ideology.
West Virginia legislators have already
advanced
a bill that would ban physicians from performing gender-reassignment surgeries on children, pushing it through the state House’s Health and Human Resources Committee. Mississippi’s state House has already passed a bill that would do the same. A similar bill has been
introduced
in Utah’s state Senate once again after it failed to move forward early last year.

A bill has been
introduced
in Virginia to prevent physicians from beginning gender transitions for children as well. Also, Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) has already promised a veto of a Democratic bill that would empower 16- and 17-year-olds to begin gender transitions without parental consent. One of the Democratic co-sponsors of that bill has said that Child Protective Services should punish parents who don’t accept their child’s gender transition, saying “it could be a felony.”
This is what the country is up against in the coming years. Democrats, liberal activists, and woke corporate media (but I repeat myself) are attempting to shame and scare people into celebrating irreversible gender transitions for children. They are doing so despite a
clear lack of evidence
that such procedures actually alleviate the depression brought on by gender dysphoria.

And they are not simply advocating permanent, life-changing surgeries and hormone treatments for the vulnerable adults. They are doing so for children, who do lack the capacity to make permanent decisions for themselves and who are easily influenced by social and cultural factors. The surge in children “identifying” as transgender or “nonbinary” or some other activist-created jargon category is not a reflection of a surge in children who suffer from gender dysphoria; it is
social contagion
among vulnerable, young minds.
Protecting children from having their lives ruined by irreversible surgeries and the permanent effects of puberty blockers and hormone replacement should be a top Republican priority in the coming years. While Democrats wail and gnash their teeth about compassion, Republican legislators and governors need to show compassion in earnest by standing strong and protecting children from the gender ideologues and the irreversible harm for which they are trying to gain mainstream acceptance.
