Liberals didn’t always care about the vulnerable ‘women and children’ in the immigration debate

Since a horde of immigrants were stopped from bum-rushing the southern border and throwing rocks that badly injured three members of the Border Patrol, all that liberals and anti-Trump talking heads on cable news can talk about are the “women and children” who got caught up in the mix when the border agents responded by firing a little tear gas.

Ana Navarro said Monday on CNN that “We’ve seen the images of the children and the women, and there has got to be a pragmatic and compassionate answer here that does not involve tear-gassing children.”

MSNBC’s Ali Velshi dedicated a three-minute segment the same day to why tear gas can be “dangerous” to children if it’s used inside a home. Setting aside the fact that the gas used at the border on Sunday was dispersed outdoors, it’s remarkable to see this swift concern for the vulnerable in the immigration debate.

President Trump over the summer hosted an event remembering 13 young Americans, as young 13 years old, killed by illegal immigrants.

Trump, flanked by parents and siblings of those killed, opened the event saying, “These are the families the media ignores. They don’t talk about them. Very unfair.”

With great comedic timing, the second that the family members went up to the microphone to speak, both CNN and MSNBC cut away to their anchors.

On MSNBC, Chris Jansing broke into the live coverage, saying, “Of course their stories are indeed tragic.” Then she moved on to a segment that disputed Trump’s assertion that there is widespread crime committed by illegal immigrants.

CNN anchor Brooke Baldwin interrupted the coverage saying, “Obviously our hearts go out to them” and “I’m not sure why attacks on the media are necessary there.” The channel’s programming then turned away from these victims to coverage of illegal immigrant families who had been separated at the border.

Remember the two pairs of black parents who were invited to the State of the Union by President Trump this year in order to show the country how tragic our immigration system is? Probably not, because their appearance (they grieved while Trump told the story of how their daughters were murdered by illegal immigrant gang members) was almost entirely dismissed by the press.

Coverage of what happened to Kayla Cuevas and Nisa Mickens, two teens killed at the hands of illegal immigrant gang members, was almost nonexistent. If you search Google for “Trump State of the Union Guests,” you will find CNN and the website Vox speculating about why the first lady wore white and didn’t ride to the Capitol in the same car as her husband.

Liberals and the news media won’t ignore all women and children caught up in the immigration controversy. But they clearly have a preference for which ones are worth their time, and it’s not the American ones.
