The body politic: Stormy Daniels (stormydaniels.org)
We’ll let Freddoso, Hemingway and Freire obsess over “Obamacare,” ACORN and tea parties — let’s all direct a very serious and discerning gaze at the early-stage primary race for Republican David Vitter’s Senate seat. Hello, Louisiana!
Stormy Daniels, a Republican businesswoman, is currently on a “listening tour” of that state (barf — but, whatever) ahead of a possible challenge to Vitter, who is seeking his second term. Oh, she’s also an adult film star but come on — it’s Louisiana! And it’s David Vitter!
Notes the AP:
During visits to several Louisiana cities last year, Daniels said she decided to explore a possible run after a “draft” movement was started by fans reacting to a scandal involving Vitter: his telephone number was among records of a Washington call girl service. Other than admitting to a “serious sin” he has steadfastly refused to answer questions about the scandal.
The state GOP is blaming Vitter’s Democratic challenger, Charlie Melancon, for putting Daniels up for the primary as a stunt — a suggestion the Democrats deny.
“If the Louisiana Republican Party is uncomfortable with a Republican challenger who has a history of selling sex, I would suggest they reconsider standing by an incumbent with a history of paying for it,” Franck said in an e-mailed statement.
Oh, heaven forfend!
Ms. Daniels will declare her intentions on April 15. By then we expect fellow Beltway types will have their priorities sorted out.
