As of Friday, President Joe Biden will have been in office for two years. That puts him at the halfway point of his first term, and if the people exercise common sense next year and vote Biden out, Friday will also be the halfway point of Biden’s presidency.
Biden is
likely running for reelection
next year, but he has given voters little reason to think he deserves another four years in the White House.
The president has a lousy approval rating: 43.9% of voters approve of him, while 51% disapprove,
according to
FiveThirtyEight
. Biden earned this poor mark by failing the nation in nearly every possible way.
On many issues, foreign and domestic, Biden has been awful.
The southern border is a disaster; there were
more than 2.1 million migrant encounters
at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal 2022. Yet, Biden is not taking the issue seriously enough. His
liberal rhetoric on immigration
, opposition to
building more barriers
along the southern border, and general disinterest in the problem have made him a failure on illegal immigration. Even though Biden has been president for about two years, his first visit to the border
only came last week
— a good indication that this is not a priority for him.
Outside of the United States, Biden has failed the world on foreign policy. While the desire to withdraw U.S. troops from Afghanistan was understandable, the way the Biden administration went about it
was disastrous
. The administration left
billions in military equipment behind
for the Taliban to seize. Plus, the administration was more focused on leaving the country by Sept. 11, 2021, for symbolic reasons than executing a safe and competent withdrawal. As a result, the Taliban quickly regained control of the entire country. In 2023, Afghanistan is the
only country
in the world that bans girls from attending secondary schools.
Plus, voters are suffering under Biden’s presidency, paying more than
$5 per gallon
for gas last year as
inflation skyrocketed to 8.2%
. While a
recession looms
this year, his administration
tried denying
that the country was in a technical recession last year as the public struggled to keep up with the rising cost of living.
Biden’s big government spending agenda, coupled with the Federal Reserve’s loose monetary policy,
has worsened inflation
. The $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan that Biden signed into law may have raised inflation by as many as 3 points, according to a March 2022
study
from the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Among other provisions, the bill gave $350 billion to state, municipal, and tribal governments, many of which already had massive surpluses. Many of these entities
have spent this money on wasteful pork projects
while their constituents have struggled to pay their bills.
Biden’s so-called legislative achievements are also mostly government waste. The CHIPS Act provided
corporate welfare
to semiconductor manufacturers, and the Inflation Reduction Act gave
corporate welfare
to green energy companies.
The Inflation Reduction Act will not reduce inflation, but it will effectively
break Biden’s promise
never to raise taxes on people earning under $400,000 annually. It will raise the tax burden on middle- to low-income workers by providing funding to hire
87,000 new IRS agents
. The IRS
disproportionately audits
low-income taxpayers because it is cheaper and easier than going after the rich. Additionally, the rich are more likely to capitalize on certain tax loopholes that make tax evasion legal.
Finally, Biden is terrible on social issues such as abortion and transgenderism. The Biden White House
refuses to say
if the president supports any abortion restrictions, including when it comes to late-term abortions. Plus, Biden
attacks conservatives
who stand up to woke gender ideology.
America deserves better than Biden in the Oval Office. Hopefully, the people understand this and vote him out in November 2024.
