GOP anti-corporatism growing

Today, the House of Representatives voted to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank, a federal agency that subsidizes U.S. exports. A record 93 Republicans voted against Ex-Im, but 142 voted for Ex-Im.

The chart nearby shows the progression of GOP votes over the past four reauthorization roll-call votes, dating back to 1992 (the 2006 reauthorization was by voice vote). Clearly, the agency is losing popularity with Republicans.

At the bottom of this post are all the No votes.

Some notable votes:

  • Leadership: The top three House GOP leaders: John Boehner, Eric Cantor, and Kevin McCarthy all voted for Ex-Im, while Nos. 4 and 5, Jeb Hensarling and Tom Price voted No.
  • Paul Ryan was the most prominent No vote. He had voted FOR Ex-Im back in 2002.
  • Senate Candidates: Missouri’s Todd Akin, Arizona’s Jeff Flake voted No. Montana’s Denny Rehberg, Florida’s Connie Mack, and North Dakota’s Rick Berg voted Aye.
