Ahead of the November midterm elections, many of us anticipated that a red wave would soon wash over the nation to restore equilibrium — and some much-needed sanity — into American politics. Voters would finally have the opportunity to reject the
Biden administration
’s radical agenda. The war on the truth, which began during the Obama administration and escalated after President Joe Biden took office, would soon be won and its aggressors exposed.
Unfortunately, those predictions failed to materialize. Republicans barely clinched the House majority and failed to take back the Senate, even handing Democrats one more seat in the upper chamber. Given Biden’s historic unpopularity, record-high inflation rates, an unprecedented border crisis, and more, one can’t help but wonder: Why did vast numbers of Americans pull the lever for Democratic candidates?
The answer is simple: Democrats successfully fabricated a new narrative — one that distracted voters from the Democratic Party’s many failures. That narrative was that Republicans, particularly supporters of former President Donald Trump whom they framed as domestic terrorists, posed an imminent threat to our “democracy.”
During his prime-time freak show speech on the “soul of the nation” earlier this year, Biden cautioned Americans that “Donald Trump and the
MAGA
Republicans represent an extremism that threatens the very foundations of our republic. … MAGA Republicans do not respect the Constitution. They do not believe in the rule of law. They do not recognize the will of the people.”
Just as the legacy media had promoted the Russian collusion hoax and so many other false stories, they dutifully filled the airwaves with ominous warnings of the end of our democratic republic if Republicans prevailed in the midterm elections.
In reality, the opposite is true.
Naomi Wolf, liberal author and one-time adviser to former President Bill Clinton, published a book in 2007 titled, The End of America: Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot. Wolf made the case that the measures implemented by the Bush administration in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks had destroyed our constitutional freedoms. (Regardless of one’s position on the appropriateness of the Patriot Act, a topic that is well beyond the scope of this post, the start of the U.S. government’s surveillance of citizens can be traced back to that time.) At any rate, Wolf’s premises ring even more true when applied to America’s current state.
Wolf rightly notes that it is much easier to destroy a democracy than it is to create one. In the book, she
enumerates
10 steps an aspiring tyrant would take to “turn an open society into a dictatorship,” which include the following:
- Invoke a terrifying internal and external enemy.
- Create a gulag.
- Develop a thug caste.
- Set up an internal surveillance system.
- Harass citizens’ groups.
- Engage in arbitrary detention and release.
- Target key individuals.
- Control the press.
- Dissent equals treason.
- Suspend the rule of law.
What is most striking about Wolf’s list is how accurately it describes the actions of the Biden administration over the past two years. The U.S. media now operates much like the state media of China, Iran, or Russia, regularly collaborating with Democrats to control the flow of information to the public. This statement is no longer up for debate; the recent revelations of the Twitter Files have confirmed it.
The
Democratic Party
has undeniably politicized our government agencies. The Biden DOJ and FBI operate as the administration’s enforcement arm and have stopped trying to hide their bias.
And why should they? America’s two-tiered system of justice has become obvious to all. Consider the targeting and detention of those who trespassed in the Capitol building during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, or the dramatic arrest by an FBI SWAT team of a Catholic priest in front of his frightened wife and seven young children for pushing back against a thug who had harassed his 12-year-old son during a peaceful protest outside a Pennsylvania abortion clinic in 2021. (The charges against 48-year-old Mark Houck had been thrown out by a judge months earlier).
The FBI’s unprecedented raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence three months ahead of the midterm elections was perhaps the most transparently political act of all, as was Attorney General Merrick Garland’s memo smearing concerned parents who spoke out at local school board meetings as domestic threats.
Democrats have no respect for the Constitution. The Left is correct that democracy is under attack, but they’re lying about its source. The encroaching tyranny that has begun to engulf our once (relatively) free society comes from the Democratic Party.
Americans better wake up, or our “government of the people, by the people, for the people,” as described by President Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg, will indeed “perish from the earth.”
