EXCLUSIVE — With abortion closely dividing Americans, we
generally agree
that it should not be publicly funded.

But to the Biden administration, it doesn’t matter what voters think. It only matters what’s popular with the far left wing of the Democratic Party. That’s why the pro-abortion lobby has recently convinced President Joe Biden to flip-flop on his support of the
Hyde Amendment
and why his administration has
no problem
with funding abortions abroad.

THE UN HUMAN RIGHTS CHIEF SHOULD SHUT UP ABOUT TWITTER AND FOCUS ON … YOU KNOW, HUMAN RIGHTS

That includes through the United Nations Population Fund.

Defunded during the Trump administration, the UNPF is a global population control initiative responsible for countless abortions, and it has even been accused of colluding with China in its brutal one-child policy. On Friday, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) is introducing legislation for the second year in a row to prevent U.S. funds from promoting the UNPF, a grotesque misuse of taxpayer dollars. Twenty-three other representatives have cosigned the legislation.

“American tax dollars should never directly or indirectly support taking of innocent human life through abortion, nor promote dehumanizing involuntary sterilizations,” Roy said in a statement provided to the Washington Examiner. “They certainly shouldn’t be used to help an oppressive Chinese Communist Party that wants to destroy our way of life in any way whatsoever. While the Biden administration messes around and weakens us on the international stage, Congress must assert its Article I power of the purse to defund the U.N. Population Fund. This legislation will return the Trump administration’s policy of keeping American tax dollars out of the coffers of the U.N. Population Fund. If the UNFPA needs our money that badly, the executive director can ask her friends at Davos to help them out.”

After former President Donald Trump cut the fund’s U.S. support in 2017, Biden returned the U.S. to financing this dubious U.N. initiative last year. The UNFPA website
celebrates
“the return of the United States in 2021 as a key donor,” reporting that the U.S. “generously contributed $30.8 million in 2021 to UNFPA’s core resources and $32.5 million is included in the U.S. Government’s appropriation for 2022 core funding.” According to U.N. data, the U.S. was the fourth biggest contributor to the agency last year. In all, the U.S. has contributed $93,333,445 since 2014.

And what have those millions wrought? In addition to more benign statistics, the UNFPA reports that 303,000 “unsafe abortions” were prevented through U.S. donations in 2021. In other words, taxpayer dollars funded hundreds of thousands of abortions.

The UNFPA has also been
accused
of promoting China’s former one-child policy and forced abortions in the country, despite its repeated denials. UNFPA certainly has a
cozy relationship
with China’s National Health Commission, the department responsible for the country’s national health policies. You know, the ones that include
forced abortions and sterilizations
of Uyghur women. But glaring hypocrisy from the U.N. is
nothing new
.

With this legislation to defund the United Nations Population Fund, House Republicans have a chance to send a message to the U.N. Our taxpayer dollars shouldn’t be funding abortion or supporting authoritarian population control measures. UNFPA may
style itself
as a benevolent body ensuring that “every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.” But there is nothing safe or fulfilling about its mission.
