Piers Morgan identifies as a “two-spirit penguin.” Yes, you read that right.
The journalist and co-host of Good Morning Britain has never shied away from controversy, and boy, have his latest escapades courted it. The outrage mob is in full swing after Morgan’s recent comments, where he poked fun at the radical gender movement in Britain and its advocacy for hundreds of different genders. After a local zoo declined to “gender” one of its penguins, Morgan proudly announce his identity as a “two-spirit penguin,” explaining “once you make self-identification that absurd, why should any form of it be off-limits?”
The internet wokescolds weren’t very happy with the television host for his tongue-in-cheek comments, and that’s putting it mildly. Nearly 20,000 people signed an internet petition calling on Good Morning Britain to fire Morgan.
The petition reads, “In keeping Piers Morgan as the programme’s main draw, however, ITV are actively choosing to promote an insidious agenda against transgender people (and minorities in general), as through his choice of language he regularly berates and mocks those who do not identify in a way he is willing to comprehend.”
Woke activists also took to Twitter in their effort to cancel Piers Morgan for committing wrongthink. They got #FirePiers trending in both the United States, the United Kingdom, and even Australia. Morgan’s haters even flooded a Good Morning Britain Twitter poll, voting en masse in favor of his ouster.

Of course, Morgan didn’t take this one lying down. He never does. The host has reveled in the attention, having an absolute field day with it — perhaps revealing how cancel culture can backfire to the target’s benefit.

I’m no fan of everything Piers Morgan believes. He can be intentionally inflammatory at times and takes positions at odds with everything I believe in on issues such as gun control. But the campaign against him is sick, twisted, and illiberal. Think about it: A prominent political commentator who has vigorously supported gay rights for years cannot question even one part of the radical gender movement’s dogma without facing career cancellation. They haven’t convinced most or even many people about their hundreds of genders, so how is it that they view themselves as being in a position to enforce dogma, as if they were part of the Spanish Inquisition?
It’s no shock that one of Britain’s most prominent journalists on transgender issues, Spiked’s Brendan O’Neill, had harsh words for the campaign against Morgan. He told me:
O’Neill is right. Even if you think Morgan is wrong on this issue, the idea that one misguided opinion should get you fired is deeply intolerant and dangerous. Would you want that standard applied against you?
As Morgan himself said, after he invited Benjamin Buttonworth (one of the people trying to get him canceled) onto his show, “I don’t tell people who disagree with me you have to be fired, or canceled, or de-platformed. I debate with them.” Ultimately, this is what separates Piers Morgan, and all his faults, from the mob.
