The House Judiciary Committee will be the vanguard for holding this White House and the federal administrative state accountable, and we are starting with President
Joe Biden
’s border crisis.
Biden and his Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas have the gall to tell the public they are serious about the border, but their actions and the numbers tell a different story.
On Biden’s first day in office, he issued an executive order to
halt
construction of the border wall and
end
all deportations for 100 days, the latter of which was
stopped
by a federal judge. He ended countless other Trump-era policies, including the successful “Remain in Mexico” policy. To make the message to border jumpers that our gates were wide open even clearer, Biden unveiled legislation to grant
amnesty
to more than 11 million illegal immigrants.
Immigrants got the message. There have been
4,282,214
known illegal border crossings under Biden — a staggering number that does not include the
thousands
of daily “gotaways” who evaded capture. And under Mayorkas’s “comprehensive strategy to secure our borders and build a safe, orderly, and humane immigration system,” 119
terrorism suspects
have crossed the southern border.
Under Biden’s border policies, no community in America is safe from the scourge of fentanyl. An estimated 196 Americans are now dying each day from the drug. Even the Washington Post
calls
the fentanyl crisis “the most lethal drug crisis in American history.”
Since July of last year, border seizures of fentanyl have averaged 2,200 pounds a month. U.S. authorities are confiscating more fentanyl in a single month than they did during all of 2018 when former President
Donald Trump
was in charge.
The situation at our border continues to deteriorate, to the point where border town officials are
warning
that their medical systems are on the brink of collapse. It’s as if Biden’s administration is trying to create chaos.
That’s why I began calling for Mayorkas to be impeached in 2021.
With Republicans in charge, Mayorkas will have to defend his record in front of the Judiciary Committee, but we can expect more bad policies to come down the pike.
Already this month, the administration rolled out a policy granting anyone from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti, or Cuba an expanded pathway into the U.S. and all the taxpayer-funded amenities our country has to offer. Up to 30,000 immigrants from these countries alone will be allowed in every month.
Congressional Republicans are not going to sit around and let Biden’s administration destroy our immigration system. As part of the agreement conservatives negotiated with House leadership this month, the House will vote on a four-pronged border security
package
put together by congressional Republicans from Texas.
This plan calls for the completion of a physical border infrastructure. We must finish the border wall system and give our law enforcement the support necessary to recruit and retain agents and officers and do their jobs.
Second, the plan fixes border enforcement policies. It calls for an end to this administration’s “catch and release” policies and requires a “detain or turn away” posture, which is necessary to maintain a sovereign border. No longer would immigrants be able to abusively claim asylum only to disappear into the interior of our nation without consequence.
Third, the abuse of interior legal loopholes must be ended, from ending the abuse of “prosecutorial discretion,” to giving
Immigration and Customs Enforcement
the tools to do their job and expel illegal immigrants quickly.
Finally, we must target the cartels and criminal organizations that possess effective operational control of our southern border. We must formally designate them as terrorist organizations and strengthen penalties for both human and drug trafficking and smuggling.
Congressional Republicans plan to hold Biden and Mayorkas accountable for the havoc they’ve wreaked at the border. But we also want to offer solutions. That’s what the public deserves: an accountable government that works to promote and protect their interests.
