After the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, MSNBC’s Joy Reid praised the “diversity, equity, and inclusion” of the telecast and
announced
, “The culture wars are over, and the Left won. Like total defeat.”
Reid announcing a leftist victory on a left-leaning network, to a left-leaning audience, in response to a culturally and politically left-leaning show is the definition of preaching to the choir. It sounds great to everyone listening because that’s what they want to hear.

But despite what Reid or anyone else, on the Left or Right, says, the culture wars rage on. It is folly to declare victory on either side. It’s also foolish to believe political solutions are the answer to whatever rot is forced upon us.
Social conservatives have grave concerns, and rightly so. In the most over-the-top moment of the awards show, Sam Smith
dressed as Satan
while singing a Grammy award-winning song called “Unholy” with transgender singer Kim Petras, who was surrounded by dancers wearing devil horns. Articles such as one titled
“Republicans Rage Over Sam Smith’s Grammy Performance: ‘This Is Evil'”
place the blame on the Right for daring to be bothered by deviance.
The answer to extremism isn’t extremism of a different variety. This is why Christian nationalism can’t be the response to decadence. The culture wars will not be won by enacting laws. They won’t be won by restricting freedom of speech. And they will not be won by attempting to force religious beliefs onto others with the hand of the government. Laws don’t change hearts or minds.
The power you give to your side when it’s at the top will be wielded against you when that power changes hands. And it always does. The Supreme Court Dobbs victory last June is an example of what can and can’t be done through government. Roe v. Wade was a bad precedent. Returning the decision to the states was the correct move.
Even so, abortion still exists and always will. Democrats are more committed than ever to “protecting” abortion. Those on the pro-life side know the battle isn’t over and that creating a culture of life is an ongoing struggle. Laws and court rulings can help in some areas, but they will never fix the deep cultural fissures.
It’s important to remember that the loudest voices demanding “diversity” and “inclusion” are more than willing to criticize conservatism and reject diversity of opinion. Turn on the Grammy Awards, and traditionalism is for pariahs. However, step out into the real world, and you see a nation that’s split between two political parties. Millions of people go about living their lives and providing for their families. To the majority, the Grammy Awards are a carnival sideshow.
There is no use in suggesting political routes as a means to fix social deterioration. It’s not only impossible but it won’t be well received. The best defense against a culture that seems to crumble more each day is a strong foundation at home with family. The family unit is our societal cornerstone. No matter what occurs beyond the walls of our homes, and no matter what society tries to pump in, families find and nurture safety.
Family life is also good training. Conservatives should be encouraged to stand their ground unapologetically against a culture that views traditionalism, the two genders, religion, and more as an affront to supposed progress.
