As both candidates fought for time during the presidential debate last night, President Obama took a moment to make sure everyone knew that Mitt Romney has more money.
“I don’t look at my pension,” Obama told Romney. “It’s not as big as yours so it doesn’t take as long.” Obama was sidestepping Romney’s point that both he and the president have blind investments that invest in China, an observation Romney was making to suggest that Obama is a hypocrite for attacking him over these Chinese investments.
Notably, Obama didn’t make any argument about why Romney’s wealth was worth a debate mention — nothing about being out of touch with the middle class, for instance — but let it stand as a zinger in its own right.
At the end of the debate, Obama assured Americans that he believes “risk takers should be rewarded.” He made the comment when asked to correct the biggest misconception about him that voters might have.
