One would think that the vice president would be familiar with one of the most important documents in the history of the world, the
Declaration of Independence
. Yet, if
Kamala Harris’s
recent speech advocating the killing of babies revealed anything, it’s that she is not familiar with its core values or even its most common quotation. To say this is disturbing, given her position of authority, would be an understatement.

Whether on purpose or out of ignorance, Harris misquoted the declaration while trying to make a point about
abortion
in a speech this week.
“So we are here together because we collectively believe and know America is a promise. America is a promise. It is a promise of freedom and liberty — not for some, but for all,” Harris said. “A promise we made in the Declaration of Independence that we are each endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Be clear. These rights were not bestowed upon us. They belong to us as Americans.”
Those on the Right focused on her omission of the “right to life,” which is, of course, egregious and points out why she has no business quoting such a document in favor of abortion. But few seem to have noticed her exclusion of “endowed by their Creator.” Here is what is actually written in the Declaration of Independence:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” the declaration reads.
The point of the declaration is that all humans have certain fundamental rights given not by the government but by God. They don’t “belong to us as Americans” but as human beings. And, no matter how much liberals, Democrats, and politicians such as Harris try to deny it, that includes the babies and unborn they want to exterminate.
The right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” is indeed essential. However, we must all recognize and acknowledge the fundamental claim of where these rights come from. If we don’t, we will continue to erode the nucleus of our country’s founding Judeo-Christian principles. And if that happens, we will be as lost as the vice president’s knowledge of the Declaration of Independence.
