Florida Democrats have been so decimated over the past few years to the point that they are begging Taylor Swift to save them.
Florida Democrats are hoping that Swift’s concerts in Miami one month before the 2024 elections will be the saving grace they need. They are going to hold “A Day of Action (Taylor’s Version)” with karaoke and “listening sessions” when she releases her album in April and will be sending party operatives to the concerts for registration drives.
The state’s House minority leader said that “any attention or light that she could shed on the challenges we face here in Florida would be welcome.” Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) said, “We hope that there’s a message included to encourage folks, especially her fans, to go vote,” adding, “We need the help.”
You could say that again.
Florida went from a competitive swing state in each election cycle to a solid red state under the stewardship of Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) and Florida’s GOP legislature. Republicans passed Democrats in voter registration in 2021 and have continued to increase their lead, which is now up to nearly 780,000, a gain of another 100,000 since just October. DeSantis cruised to reelection by nearly 20 points in 2022.
While political media, in particular, obsess over Swift (both positively and negatively), her political power has yet to be proven. In fact, it was considered a grand event when Swift finally forayed into politics in 2018 when she endorsed Democrat Phil Bredesen against Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in Tennessee. Bredesen was a popular former governor of the state, and 2018 was a Democratic wave year thanks to backlash against unpopular then-President Donald Trump. Despite all of these favorable conditions, including it being an open seat, Bredesen lost by double digits.

Swift, meanwhile, is about to become just another Democrat-endorsing celebrity in a sea of them. She backed President Joe Biden in 2020 and will do so again this year. She prattles on about the “right side of history” like every other politically naive celebrity alive. At some point, the oversaturation of celebrity Democrats and Swift’s transformation into just another Democratic Party parrot doesn’t move the needle. This is the same Democratic Party that has a vice grip on all of Hollywood and the entertainment industry already.
If LeBron James can’t move the needle for Hillary Clinton in Ohio, who is to say Taylor Swift can do the same for any of Florida’s D-tier candidates now that their bench has been hollowed out? All we know for certain is that Florida Democrats have been so thoroughly decimated that they are relying on a Hail Mary from yet another Democratic celebrity after their party has been driven into the ground.
