Poll: Romney #1, Cain #2 in Fla. Where’s Perry?

War Room Logistics (WRL) surveyed over 1300 likely Republican Primary voters and found former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., in first place in the state, while Herman Cain gained almost 19 points from a previous poll, putting him in a strong second place.

WRL, which the St. Petersburg Times (Fla.) says typically polls for Republicans, showed Romney in first with 28 percent, Cain in second with 24 percent, and Gingrich in third with 10 percent. Gov. Rick Perry, R-Texas, fell to fourth place with 9 percent – a 15 point drop from a WRL poll taken before the Florida debate.

The numbers suggest that Perry’s poor debate performance – and perhaps his Ponzi Scheme rhetoric about Social Security – has hurt him in Florida.

The poll also showed a wide-open race in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate. Former U.S. Senator George LeMieux leads Col. Mike McCallister with 7.7 percent compared to McCallister’s 4.6 percent. Former Florida House Majority Leader Adam Hasner has 3 percent support, and businessman Craig Miller placed fourth with 1.8 percent. Roughly 83 percent of respondents remain undecided; the winner will challenge the vulnerable Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.
