Rick Santorum will appear on ABC’s This Week Sunday, amid reports that Newt Gingrich cancelled his scheduled interview with George Stephanopoulos.
“Tomorrow morning I will be on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos,” Santorum wrote to supporters. I hope you will tune in to watch as I talk about how we plan to put every resource we can into wining Florida on January 31.” ABC is also announcing the interview.
Santorum might not have been the network’s first choice. The Drudge Report announced yesterday that “Newt cancel[led] ABC’s THIS WEEK for Sunday,” according to a “network source.” ABC aired an interview Thursday with Gingrich’s ex-wife, who made a series of allegations about Gingrich’s affair and divorce. Gingrich called the ABC’s handling of the interview, and decision to release it two days before the South Carolina primary, “despicable” during the Thursday debate.
Gingrich appears to be in a strong position to win South Carolina when the final votes are cast today. Public Policy Polling shows Gingrich with 37 percent support, a strong lead over Mitt Romney (28 percent), Rick Santorum (16 percent), and Ron Paul (14 percent).
