All this talk about holding President Obama to one term. Hmm — good luck. If his numbers stay around 50 percent, and assuming even marginal improvement in the economy, Republican 2012 campaign expenditures could be money down a rathole.
But making that conversation more interesting, Quinnipiac has a new poll out today showing 49 percent of Americans don’t think Obama should get a second term, to 43 percent who say he should.
Matched up against Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee, Obama finds himself in a dead heat. He beats Sarah Palin in a theoretical matchup, 48 percent to 40 percent.
There is some other stuff in there — no one knows Mitch Daniels, and Republicans like Romney, Huckabee and Gingrich the most.
Taegan Goddard notes on PoliticalWire that Huckabee is worried that Republicans are underestimating Obama. Huckabee, weirdly enough on ABC’s “The View” (is this the new must-go for politicians?) said:
He also said the new divided government will be good for Obama, because “when the executive and legislative branches fight, the executive always wins.”
