Obama: Romney’s ‘hit bottom’ comment ‘is wrong’

President Obama quoted, but did not name, Mitt Romney today when he derided Romney’s preferred housing market policy during an official event today.

“It is wrong for anybody to suggest that the only option for struggling, responsible homeowners is to sit and wait for the housing market to hit bottom,” said President Obama, who acknowledged that “government certainly can’t fix the entire problem on its own.”

Obama derided “anybody’ who says the housing market should have hit bottom, but Mitt Romney was the Republican presidential candidate who said that the government should allow the foreclosure process to “run it’s course and hit the bottom.”

The Democratic National Committee has already released an attack ad against Romney built around those comments. Vice President Joe Biden, however, acknowledged recently that Romney’s proposal was the “quickest way” to repair the housing market (although Biden still argued that government should do more to help people in the short term).
