Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) is so desperate to become president that he is pandering to the most neurotic members of the Democratic Party in hopes his hysterics will scare them into supporting his candidacy.
Newsom went on Stephen Colbert‘s “comedy” show to peddle the same line he has been workshopping for weeks now. Newsom said that, “in the core of my soul,” he fears that “we will not have an election in 2028” unless we “wake up.” Newsom insists that he really, truly believes this, but the inauthenticity of this act drips off the screen if you watch the video.
Aside from the poor acting job, Newsom gives away that he doesn’t mean this because his solution of “waking up” doesn’t mean anything. What Newsom is trying to communicate to voters is that they must be scared, that every bit of news out of Washington, D.C., should send them into hysterics, and they should live every moment in fear that democracy will be snuffed out forever. Newsom is playing into the fear of politics-obsessed Democrats that make up the party’s activist base, in hopes that he can whip up enough fear-motivated enthusiasm for his presidential campaign that he feels “in the core” of his soul won’t be allowed to exist.

This would be undeniably irresponsible, no matter the current state of politics. Newsom more than anyone knows that there will be a presidential election in 2028, which is why he has been positioning himself to run for the past several years. But it is made far, far worse by the fact that the very neurotic left-wingers he is appealing to are the same cohort that produces left-wing terrorists committing acts of political violence. That includes the man who allegedly shot and killed Charlie Kirk, the man who allegedly shot and killed multiple illegal immigrants while trying to shoot ICE agents, and the man who allegedly shot into an ABC station in Sacramento.
Newsom is playing into the ‘all Republicans are fascists and threats to democracy’ sentiment that is fueling left-wing political violence, all to try to stir up primary votes for himself in 2028. It is despicable, pathetic, and, worst of all, completely predictable for a power-hungry politician like Gavin Newsom.
