After President Donald Trump sent federal agents into Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson has decided to embrace even more unhinged rhetoric in hopes of saving his floundering administration.
At a press conference on Monday, Johnson continued his weird Civil War fantasies by claiming that “the extreme Right in this country refuse to accept the results of the Civil War. They have repeatedly called for a rematch.” Johnson boasted that “in the coming weeks, we will use this opportunity to build greater resistance.” He then accused Trump of escalating “a war in Chicago.”
In Johnson’s mind, he is fighting the Battle of Gettysburg right there in the streets of Chicago, and he wants Chicago residents to think that too. After all, the Union winning the Civil War is very popular among Americans, while Johnson is one of the least popular figures in the country. In February, Johnson’s approval sat at an abysmal 6%. It has since risen to a more normal, but still terrible 26%.
Johnson’s administration has been a resounding failure, and Chicago residents know that. The only way Johnson can think of to save his failing political career is to pit himself against Trump in the most extreme way he can think of, acting as if he is standing against a return to segregation or even slavery. Two years ago, Johnson argued that Republicans are “still mad that a black man is free in this country.”
ICE AGENTS IN CHICAGO RAMMED AND BOXED IN BY VEHICLES: DHS
This is the kind of deranged rhetoric Johnson has had to turn to as his socialism continues to destroy the Windy City. He had been reduced to speaking at the podium as if he were ranting on a street corner. Chicago voters clearly haven’t bought it yet, but Democratic politicians continue to eat it up, refusing to condemn the absurd, extreme rhetoric. This is before we even get to all the implications of Johnson painting all Republicans as wannabe slaveowners while left-wing political violence spirals out of control.
Johnson should be mocked, ridiculed, and hounded out of office, as he has shown he has no grip on reality. He is undeniably the worst mayor in the country and one of the most toxic figures in politics today, and both Chicago residents and members of the Democratic Party should be embarrassed at being represented by him.
