Rep. Anthony Weiner, D-N.Y., will resign his seat in his district at 2 p.m. Democratic sources confirm to The Washington Examiner.
Weiner has been under increasing pressure to step down over lewd pictures and texts he sent to women via social media sites.

Weiner on Monday asked for a two-week leave of absence in order to seek rehabilitative treatment of some kind, but the Democratic leadership said that wasn’t enough. They were scheduled to meet today to strip him of his lone committee assignment on the Energy and Commerce Committee.
New York officials will have to set a time to hold a special election to replace Weiner, whose 9th District seat encompassing parts of Queens and Brooklyn is deemed safe for Democrats.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., was bombarded with questions about Weiner at her weekly press conference, but she didn’t say much in response.
“Let’s see what he does today and then we’ll go from there,” Pelosi said, expressing frustration that the media was not showing nearly as much interest in her party’s jobs agenda.
Weiner called Pelosi while she was at the White House picnic Wednesday night and told her he was resigning.
Rep. Nita Lowey, another New York Democrat, didn’t wait for Weiner’s official resignation to say something about the matter.
“There is life after Congress for Anthony Weiner and I hope he devotes himself to repairing the damage he caused to his personal life,” Lowey said in a statement.
