Just minutes after a Rose Garden speech demanding that Congress pass a jobs bill, President Obama tried to salvage some congressional support by campaigning for David Weprin, the struggling Democratic nominee for the U.S. House in the NY-9 special election.
Joseph Weisenthal of Business Insider tweeted that he “got a text from Obama to go vote fore Weprin today. I live in Lower Manhattan.” If I understand that tweet correctly, then Obama actually gave bad directions – Election Day is tomorrow, not today.
In any case, Obama might have limited value as a spporter in this election. Although New York 9 traditionally votes strongly Democratic, Obama has a 56% disapproval rating in the most recent Public Policy Polling survey of the race, and a 54% disapproval rating for his handling of issues related to Israel. Weprin trails Republican nominee Bob Turner 47-41.
In other news, former President Bill Clinton and New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, D, are recording robocalls on Weprin’s behalf. And speaking of Israel, Turner demanded that Obama rebuke Turkey because of their opposition to Israel right now and the raid on the Israeli embassy in Egypt.
