New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani has created a feedback loop in which he excuses or defends radical Islamists and their allies and then exploits their actions to paint himself as a perpetual victim of society, even when he isn’t the target of the hateful attacks that happen under his watch.
Two people were arrested after trying to set off bombs at a protest outside of Mamdani’s official residence. Here is how Mamdani framed the protest: “Yesterday, white supremacist Jake Lang organized a protest outside Gracie Mansion rooted in bigotry and racism. Such hate has no place in New York City. It is an affront to our city’s values and the unity that defines who we are.”
WHAT THE NEW YORK TIMES CAN’T BRING ITSELF TO SAY ABOUT MAMDANI’S WIFE
And here is how he framed the bombs: “What followed was even more disturbing. Violence at a protest is never acceptable. The attempt to use an explosive device and hurt others is not only criminal, it is reprehensible and the antithesis of who we are.” In a statement, Mamdani’s team said the bombing attempt is “a stark reminder of the threats [the mayor and the first lady] both face regularly.”
Now, if you were to read all of that, you would be under the impression that the bombs came from the “white supremacist” protesters and were targeting Mamdani. But no, the bombs came from two Islamic terrorists and were thrown at the protesters who opposed Mamdani. Emir Balat and Ibrahim Kayumi were arrested after the attempted bombing, with both of them pledging allegiance to the Islamic State group. According to the New York Times, “One of the two men told investigators that their motive had to do with the disrespect of Muslims by Mr. Lang, according to a law enforcement official briefed on the matter.”
That means this was an attempted bombing of people protesting against Mamdani, committed by Islamic terrorists. Somehow, according to Mamdani, he is the real victim of this attack.
WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE MAKESHIFT BOMBS THROWN AT ANTI-ISLAM PROTESTERS IN NYC
This is how the loop works. Mamdani fuels radicalism, justifying antisemitic protests against synagogues and defending terrorist sympathizers who call for genocide — “globalize the intifada”. When this boils over into action, the real victim is Mamdani, and the real crime is “Islamophobia,” even when the actual crime is attempting to bomb anti-Mamdani protesters in the name of the Islamic State group.
This is how Mamdani tries to weasel his way out of criticism for the rhetorical cover he gives antisemites and Islamists. He is ever the victim, even when multiple people protesting against him are nearly murdered, because he knows liberal media outlets will eat it up and help him deflect criticism away from him and his “globalize the intifada” worldview.
