Senate Judiciary Chairman Pat Leahy, D. Vt., has set the opening day for Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s confirmation hearings for July 13. Leahy cited the need for Sotomayor to be able to defend against “attacks on her character” for setting the hearings so soon.
