Truce renewed in Yemen’s deadly fighting

After weeks of deadly clashes and failed truces, a ceasefire was announced Tuesday in Yemen’s capital of Sana’a.

“The accord highlights the importance of protecting the lives of innocent civilians by ending the armed occupation of public and private properties,” according to a government press release. “In order to restore peace in the capital, armed factions are to depart the city… We understand that in the past committing to a ceasefire has proven to be a daunting task but today’s progress remains, nonetheless, a positive step towards sustainable peace.”
