Romney surging in Florida as absentee ballots cast

Mitt Romney has opened up a commanding 41% to 19% lead over Newt Gingrich in Florida according to a new Rasmussen poll released today. As recently as December 7th, it was Gingrich who led Romney, in an NBC poll, 44% to 29%.

While Gingrich is pinning all of hopes on a slate of new ads attacking Romney for his tenure at Bain Capital, it may already be too late for a comeback. Almost 425,000 absentee ballots have already been sent out to voters and about 84,000 have already been returned. Only Romney and Ron Paul currently have absentee ballot programs up and running in Florida.
