The Trump campaign’s attempts to paint the violent riots in American cities as a preview of “Biden’s America” have been met with media snark and Democrats lobbing back their own accusations of “Trump’s America.” Nonetheless, while the optics of the Trump campaign’s strategy haven’t been ironed out, it is clear that Democrats own these riots.
Joe Biden is leaning into the notion that the violence will stop if he’s president, claiming that it is Trump supporters acting as militias that are fueling the violence. This is, of course, a ridiculous assertion. The rioters who burned down Minneapolis and Kenosha were there because of the police killings of George Floyd and Jacob Blake. The ongoing messes in Portland and Seattle’s autonomous zone are not the making of Trump supporters but of antifa anarchists.
Biden expects you to believe that Kamala Harris was promoting the bail fund for Minneapolis rioters to free gun-toting Trump supporters. At least 13 members of Biden’s campaign staff donated to that same bail fund, as did a collection of left-wing celebrities.

The fact is, and always has been, that these riots are happening in Democrat-run cities in Democrat-governed states. This is the case for Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Denver, and Kenosha. And when the Trump administration sent federal law enforcement to Portland simply to protect a federal courthouse, the president was decried as a totalitarian and told by the Democratic mayor and governor to get out.
So, in case you didn’t follow the argument from Democrats, it goes like this: There should be “unrest” and “uprisings” in the streets, but the rioters and looters are mostly peaceful, and you should donate to bail them out of jail, but really there’s nothing wrong with lighting businesses on fire and looting them, and anyway, it’s actually Trump supporters who are being violent, and Donald Trump is doing nothing to stop it, but if he sends his federal forces, he’s a dictator.
This is the convoluted narrative Democrats have settled on because the truth is much less appealing for them. The cities facing violence are run by Democrats, and all of them are in states where Democrats hold the governors’ mansions. The pitch that this stops if Biden is elected is political extortion because Democrats have encouraged these “protests” to go on, and they have been the ones refusing to deal with the violence in the streets.
