Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., sent out a fundraising email today on behalf of his father, Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, that criticized other presidential candidates who received contributions “from Wall Street banksters,’ even though Rand Paul received donations from the banking industry during his Senate campaign in 2010.
“Right now is the time to make sure Ron Paul has everything he needs to stand toe-to-toe with his other top-tier opponents” in the presidential primary, said Rand Paul in the email, adding that “while they’re raking in money from Wall Street banksters, my dad is depending on good folks like you.” Former Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., received attention recently for the $7.5 million he has raised from the financial industry.
The younger Paul, though, accepted over $165,000 from the securities and investments industry during his U.S. Senate run, as well as an additional $45,000 from commercial banks, according to opensecrets.org.
