Romney announces exploratory committee on fifth anniversary of RomneyCare

Mitt Romney today announced the formation of a presidential exploratory committee. Oddly, the news comes on the week of the fifth anniversary of the Massachusetts health care plan he signed as governor. He leaves his signature legislative accomplishment unmentioned in the announcement video.

In his last campaign, Romney tried to play up social issues, but that strategy backfired as it merely highlighted his own reversals on his prior liberal positions and earned him a reputation for being inauthentic. His chances this time hinge on whether primary voters will look past his health care plan in light of economic concerns and/or whether a viable alternative to Romney emerges.</p>
