The Iowa Republican Central Committee will choose January 3rd, a Tuesday, as the date for the state’s caucus, according to a GOP central committee member who spoke to The Des Moines Register. The Central Committee will not make their choice official until an October 16th meeting.
The January 3rd date would make the Iowa caucus the first contest in the primary process. Iowa held their caucus on January 3rd, a Thursday, in 2008 as well.
There is, however, no guarantee Iowa will be the first contest. New Hampshire could still move their date forward, possibly as early as December 6th. Most analysts predict Secretary of State William Gardner will pick January 7th. If Gardner went that route, this is how the schedule would look:
Tuesday, January 3rd: Iowa caucus
Saturday, January 7th: New Hampshire primary
Saturday, January 14th: Nevada, caucus
Saturday, January 21st: South Carolina primary
Tuesday, January 31st, Florida primary
