Illinois state Treasurer and Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, who’s battled perceptions that the White House isn’t invested in his campaign, is bringing some Obama administration help to the trail next month. The Chicago Tribune reports that Education Secretary Arne Duncan will campaign with Giannoulias on June 17 and White House deputy chief of staff Jim Messina will join him on June 19.
Tongue planted firmly in cheek, I will wonder aloud whether Messina’s trip to Illinois is a sign that Alexi Giannoulias is about to become the next U.S. Treasurer so that they can replace him on the ballot with someone more electable.
