Reagan lacks currency: poll

Reagan: Keep the change!

A new Marist Poll found a rather pointed lack of enthusiasm for replacing Ulysses S. Grant on the $50 bill with President Ronald Reagan. Seventy-nine percent said it’s a bad idea, while 21 percent liked it and nine percent were unsure.

Even among Republicans, for whom Reagan is a revered figure, 71 percent had a general nose-wrinkling reaction to the plan. Democrats were even less thrilled — 83 percent said no thanks, along with 79 percent of independents.

North Carolina Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry first floated the idea, saying “it’s time to honor the last great president of the 20th (century) and give President Reagan a place besides Presidents Roosevelt and Kennedy.”

Sorry, congressman! But you can still buy a digitally remastered photo that adds Reagan to Mount Rushmore.
