Barbara Boxer’s secret weapon: Danny DeVito

Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., locked in perhaps the closest race she’s faced since the House banking scandal ensnared her in 1992, is reaching early for her big Hollywood fundraisers. Instead of just a cocktail party at some mountainside mansion, she has Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman sending out fundraising e-mails for her:

This past Saturday, we hosted a fundraiser for Barbara at our home, and we were thrilled that dozens of other Boxer supporters could join us.

It was a wonderful afternoon. With the House poised to vote on historic health care reform legislation the next day, excitement was high. Barbara told us that prospects for passage were good, so everyone was in good spirits…We can’t imagine Washington, D.C. without Barbara Boxer.

We’ve got to make sure that Barbara is in as strong a position as possible — and that means helping her campaign reach its $250,000 grassroots fundraising goal before March 31….We’ve known Barbara Boxer a long time, and we’re so lucky to call her a friend.

More importantly, we’re lucky to call her our senator — as are the millions of other Californians who Barbara fights for every day.

That’s how Hollywood stars feel. Drought-stricken Central Valley farmers? Perhaps not so much. (Although lucky for them, their Congressmen had votes to sell on the health care bill.)
