Democratic Congressional Campaign Chairman Chris Van Hollen just spoke in a public conference call about how Congressional Democrats will keep their majority in the midst of the adverse circumstances that have already produced Republican governors in New Jersey and Virginia and a Republican senator from Massachusetts.
Asked about what districts he is focused on, he mentioned that Rep. Charlie Dent, R-Pa. is a target. In a more realistic vein, he mentioned the open at-large seat in Delaware and the suburban Chicago seat being vacated by moderate Rep. Mark Kirk, R.

Most surprising, perhaps, was the length of time Van Hollen spent talking about the DCCC’s last victory, the special House election in New York’s 23rd District. Of this once-in-a-lifetime contest, which featured bitter Republican infighting and an insurgent third-party candidate, he said:
“That one offers a very good prescription for the kind of races that need to be run in November.”
It is hard to construe that statement in a way that makes much sense.
