Aurora (Colo.) Police Chief Dan Oates warned journalists to be wary of pranks, either on social media or in other contexts, that stem from the theater shooting at the Batman premiere.
“We are already finding that there have been a lot of pranks,” Oates said today.”There was even somebody who called a local media station impersonating me,” he added, according to the rush transcript of his remarks.
Oates believes this shooting was an isolated incident. “We are not looking for any other suspects, we are confident that he acted alone,” he told reporters, adding that “from our first call to his apprehension was about a minute, a minute and a half.”
The shooter, who was armed with two .40 caliber Glocks and wearing body armor when apprehended, “surrendered without any incident.” In the theater, he was also armed with a shotgun and an AR-15 assault rifle, according to Oates.
