Even for the White House, deputy press secretary Bill Burton was sounding weirdly evasive about whether first fan President Obama will go to the Stanley Cup Finals in Chicago. The mighty Hawk, bereft of the cup since 1961, meet the Philadelphia Flyers at home for game one on Saturday. Aboard Air Force One:
Q: What’s he going to do in Chicago on Saturday and Sunday?
MR. BURTON: What’s he going to do? He’s going to hang out with his family and friends and enjoy one of America’s great cities.
Q: Hockey game?
MR. BURTON: I would say that there is no public schedule for that day.
OMG. Beltway usually eye-rolls and power-sighs through weekend White House pool duty — but this is one shift we’d happily swap for. Obama is not much of a hockey fan -he’s never been to a Caps game. He’s all about the White Sox and the Bears — and rather conspicuously ignores all things Blackhawk. Get on the bandwagon, Obama!
We suspect he has the hookup for tickets.
Update: Sigh. Burton would like to clarify — “There is no plan for the president to go to a hockey game this weekend.”
Burton! Drop the gloves.
