Americans trust the Pentagon brass more than twice as much as President Obama, and while they endorse his plans to quit Afghanistan early, most say the war will be judged a failure in the long run.
A new Rasmussen poll found that likely voters trust military leaders over Obama 64 percent to 28 percent when there is a disagreement over removing troops.
But while it was his defense secretary and not the brass that recently announced plans to pull out by the middle of next year, the president has the public on his side. A huge 67 percent favor the withdrawal while just 22 percent oppose.
That’s good news for the White House which has been accused of playing politics with its early yank of troops from Afghanstan.
But not all’s good. Obama, who has embraced the war in Afghanistan, could get the blame for any failure. And according to Rasmussen, 37 percent of likely voters believe it will be judged a failure in the long run, with 32 percent saying it will be judged a success.
