Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., D-Ill., who made an anonymous appearance in the case against former Gov. Rod Blagojevich, D, regarding the sale of a Senate seat, is not necessarily going to endorse the Democratic candidate for that Senate seat, he tells Politico today.
The Chicago Sun-Times picks up the story and adds some context:
U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s friendship with fellow Rep. Mark Kirk could spell problems for Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias, who hopes to win the Senate seat formerly held by President Obama….”I like Alexi Giannoulias, but I have great respect for Mark Kirk and his service to the people of Illinois,” [POLITICO] quotes Jackson as saying.
The Sun-Times notes:
In 1998, Jackson refused to endorse fellow Democrat Glenn Poshard for governor because Poshard opposed the airport, which Republican George Ryan backed. Jackson stayed on the sidelines in that race, telling constituents to “vote their interests.”
I did not realize we had Jackson to thank for Gov. George Ryan, who could soon be Blagojevich’s cell-mate.
