Give the public what it wants to see

For much of the post-9/11 decade, Hollywood has given us a spate of anti-military war movies. Hollywood insiders justify this as giving the pubic what they want to see. But it seems those insiders are guilty of projecting onto the American public their own anti-military attitudes. The blogger Just a Grunt at the Jammie Wearing Fools blog gives you the numbers. Last weekend Act of Valor, the movie about and starring Navy SEALS, was number one at the box office and grossed $25 million. That’s far more than the numbers for several much higher budget antiwar movies, whose opening weekend grosses are set out for all to see.
