Romney-Ryan 2012? It could happen

Conservatives who are disappointed with the current field of presidential contenders, take heart: there still is a possibility you will be able to vote for a presidential ticket with the name “Paul Ryan’ on the ballot.

No, Ryan is not reconsidering running for president, but the Racine Journal Times reports that Wisconsin law would allow Ryan to run for his House seat and be on the GOP ticket:

In a phone interview last week with The Journal Times, Ryan, who represents Racine County and was recently named a runner-up for Time magazine person of the year, said definitely “no,” he is not running for president.
It’s a question that repeatedly came up when he toured the district earlier this year and he hasn’t changed his mind.
But as for vice president, instead of saying straight-out “no,” he said, “That is not even my decision. There is no point speculating on that.”
It’s a position which the party nominates people to, not one that candidates run for as the presidential candidates are doing.
But if he was to be nominated, he could end up on both the ballot for vice president and run for his House seat at the same time, according to Wisconsin state law.
Citing state statute 8.03, Reid Magney, spokesman for the Government Accountability Board, said your name cannot appear on a ballot more than once. But, that doesn’t apply when a candidate is nominated to the office of president or vice president, the statute states. That means Ryan could be on the ballot without automatically having to give up his seat.
