The results are in for Houghton and Sunderland South, a seat in heavily industrial northeast England. As expected, the Labour candidate won, but by a significantly reduced margin. Labour’s percentage was down from 64% to 50%, the Conservative percentage was up from 16% to 21%, and the Liberal Democrat percentage was down from 16% to 14%. These numbers tend to confirm the exit poll, which has been updated to project the Conservatives at 305, Labour at 255 and Liberal Democrats at 61.
