Rick Santorum told supporters that he and Mitt Romney have one win apiece after an Iowa recount showed Santorum with a 34 vote edge, with eight precincts in which vote totals will never be known.
“Breaking news this morning that the final count is in from Iowa and I was declared the winner of the 2012 Iowa Caucus,” Santorum said in a campaign email. “This now means that we have one win and Mitt Romney has one win.”
Santorum said the revised totals render him “the leading conservative candidate” to oppose Romney and President Obama. That may prove true; but if it does, it will likely have more to do with the bombshell ABC interview in which Newt Gingrich’s second wife says he’s morally unfit to be president.
