Unions target pro-life Democrats opposing health care

Glenn Thrush reports that AFL-CIO affiliates will target pro-life Democrats who may vote against the health care reform bill.

In addition to the $11 million in TV and radio ad buys partly financed by labor cash, local AFL-CIO affiliates will staff phone banks and visit members’ offices in districts with high concentrations of organized labor, the sources said.

But maybe they should spend more time convincing their own members that the bill is worth passing as the Wall Street Journal reported this morning that union members are deeply divided on the bill.

“We are opposing this bill with every last breath in us,” said International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers President Thomas Buffenbarger, who sits on the AFL-CIO’s executive council.
