Health insurance premiums paid by most Americans rose 9% this year, sending the average annual cost of family coverage past $15,000, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s annual Employer Health Benefits survey. Between 2009 and 2010, while Obamacare was being debated, health insurance premiums rose only 3%.
The survey estimates that 2.3 million adult children were added to their parent’s employer health plan due to the Affordable Care Act. Charging higher premiums is one way insurance companies can help pay for the mandated increased care.
Other elements of Obamacare are also clearly failing. Only one-third of small businesses even attempted to determine if they are eligible for Obamacare tax credits, and only a third of those businesses said they intend to claim the credit. That means close to 90% of all small businesses will not be helped by Obamacare.
