Yemen’s president to step down, report says

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Yemen’s top general are planning to resign from their posts in days. The deal is said to include a civilian-led transitional government to run the nation.

In Yemen, sources told reporters, that the deal to settle the political issue arose when Gen. Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, demanded that the president step down.

This week, tanks units loyal to Saleh have been  standing off with tank units supporting Gen. Ahmar.

Thousands of anti-government protesters have been clamoring in the streets  in opposition to Saleh’s government.
