At a Congressional Budget Office hearing today, Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-New Jersey) complained about the loss of jobs in the public sector especially among police officers, firefighters, and teachers. At one point, he referred to the shooting of a police officer as evidence for his point:
“We could put a human touch on this. . . last night police officer Kevin Brennan in Brooklyn was shot down, shot in the face pursuing an individual with an illegal gun.”
Pascrell warned of government cuts to the FBI, Transportation, Border Security, and Veteran benefits.
“That’s where we’re headed,” he continued. “Because there are people here who want to destroy the government, that it has no responsibility, and they can’t live up to the obligations.”
According to news reports, police officer Brennan is expected to make a full recovery.
