Obama plans to reduce troops in Iraq to 3000

Fox News reported Tuesday that the Obama Administration will reduce troop levels in Iraq to 3,000 by the end of the year, ignoring the request of top military commanders to keep roughly 27,000 American soldiers there.

The decision has left senior military officials concerned about Iraq’s security, and the safety of the troops left behind, the Fox report said.

In response to the story, Defense Department officials said the administration has not reached a decision on troop levels in Iraq.

“Discussions with the Iraqis on our post-2011 strategic relationship are on-going, and no decisions on troop levels have been made,” said Defense Department spokesman George Little. “We continue to proceed with troops withdrawals as directed by the President.”
